Global surgery information
Global surgery has recently come to the forefront, with surgeons now choosing academic careers focused on care of children in LMICs. Residents, fellows, and trainees often come to their training with considerable experience working in resource-poor areas, and they are interested in continuing their work throughout their careers.
Also, in the international arena, global surgery has gained considerable attention in terms of measuring the burden of surgical disease, assessing disparities in surgical care, addressing ummet essential surgical needs, increasing capacity in regions with a lack of adequate surgical manpower, and advocating for the surgical patient within organizations such as the United Nations and the World Health Organization.
The GICS Network here provides some basic information on the field of global surgery.
